This course is approved for the following POST Mandated Learning Objective(s): 

  • Crisis Intervention and Mental Illness Crisis (1,3,4,5,7)

  • Officer/First Responder Wellness (1.2.3.4)

30 Total CEUs for POST Board:

  • 6 hours virtual- This is completed prior to the three in-person days. It is released two weeks prior to the in-person course.

  • 24 hours in person (over three days from 8-4:30pm)

This Specific Course is tailored to CLEO’s and the unique stressors held by top Law Enforcement Leaders. The higher up you go, the isolated you are. The course is designed for Leadership.

PER STATE STATUTE: Approved course to fulfill the MN Statute §181.9731 (Public Safety Peer Counseling)

  • Review first responder cultures, eight dimensions of wellness and psychological first aid. 

  • Understand their role and responsibilities of a peer support worker and enhance their communication, interaction, decision-making, crisis management and support skills

  • Be able to assess their own level of resilience and understand ways to enhance resiliency, be a model of wellness, and avoid burnout in this role

  • Have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be most effective in helping peers move towards recovery

  • Have basic awareness to recognize signs of mental health challenges and how to provide peer support and access to mental health professionals 

  • Learn additional crisis management training, gain knowledge of how to identify and safely manage a crisis situation with a peer in distressThis 30-hour course trains participants to be effective peer support team members. It covers peer support history, applications, and the importance of cultural understanding. Participants will learn to recognize stress, apply coping strategies, and follow best practices. The course also addresses crisis communication, substance abuse, grief support, and cross-cultural issues.
